I recently purchased some of the ColourPop glosses from Karrueche’s new line: Stain and Lychee Me and a couple of the older ones: My Jam, Weho, and Bestie. When I got the glosses in the mail I didn’t wear or swatch them immediately. It wasn’t until last week when I went to put Lychee Me on I saw that the bottle was half empty. I kid you not, all the gloss seemed to be coated on the inside of the bottle where you can see it, but there was very little product actually inside the lip gloss. In fact you could see my lip gloss applicator straight through the gloss, that’s how sparse it was.
Now first and foremost, I would like to say I’m a huge fan of the ColourPop brand. I own nearly every single color of their lippiestix, eye shadows, and highlighters, however I was really disappointed by these glosses. The same thing happened with the metallic My Jam lip gloss when I went to put it on, there was gloss coated on the inside of the gloss, but not much actually inside the gloss. I would say the glosses were 50-60% full. The Stain, Weho, and Bestie glosses weren’t as bad and seemed to be 85% full. The problem is I would’ve liked them to be 100% full seeing as they were brand new lip glosses.
A couple of months ago, this same kind of thing happened with Kylie Jenner’s lipkits, see one of my favorite YouTubers, TootsieTime, for details on the drama if you don’t already know what happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Mldd1pqw8.
Basically Kylie’s liquid lipsticks shipped out to customers pretty much close to empty. Now, I definitely think the Kylie incident was way worse because her glosses were like 20% full compared to Colourpop’s which are half full, but what I want to know is – does ColourPop use the same factory as Kylie? I’ve been buying from ColourPop since they came out and I’ve never had this problem. So what changed?
I’ve searched YouTube and haven’t seen anyone complaining of the same problem, so I don’t know, maybe I just personally received a rough batch. I haven’t emailed ColourPop about it, because the lip glosses are so affordable, part of me thinks it would be petty. However, as a loyal customer of theres, I am pretty disappointed in the glosses I received. To see exactly what im talking about, check out my YouTube video:
For a mini-review of the my initial thoughts on the ultra lipglosses, continue reading below.
Stain: This gloss is really sheer, and not the color you would imagine it to be. I thought it was going to be a rich, deep burgundy. But it goes on more like a sheer red, a good comparison would be the consistency of the NYX butter glosses, but even more transparent. I would pass on purchasing this color and instead get the vibrant red Saigon ultra matte from ColourPop!

Lychee Me: This gloss is pretty much translucent. If you have melanin, I would pretty much say pass on this. The lipgloss barely showed up on me and took 3 applications to get it to show up at all.

Weho: This gloss is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. At first glance it looks like it would be similar to Lychee Me, but its completely different. The gloss is a perfect peachy nude, and only takes one application to go on. I think this color would work for all skin tones and would definitely recommend purchasing it.

My Jam: This gloss is by far my favorite. As everyone knows metallic lips are the trend these days, and this gloss does not disappoint. The gold color is stunning, and I think would look better one tan to deep skin tones. I definitely recommend purchasing this (its a great dupe for Kylie Jenner’s Heir and less than half the price!)

Bestie: This is a gorgeous pink gloss. It went on the lips beautifully and only required one application. This gloss is great for all skin tones, I highly recommend!

Overall you really can’t beat the $6.00 price-point of ColourPop’s lip glosses, but I hope that my recent purchase was just a glitch and it doesn’t happen again. Let me know in the comments what you think of the lip glosses and if you’ve experienced the same problems as me!
